New/Old Mashup: Using Texture
Awhile back ago in one of my Instant Shopper posts, I sung the praises of this stunning textured vase shown in the centre. As you can see I absolutely couldn't stand to pass up on it myself so now here it is in a little sample vignette for the sake of our discussion. [Editor's note: The seller of the vase was a perfect example of not using vignetting to sell the item itself. Read my earlier post on why design vignettes are bad for selling on Etsy.]
When it comes to mixing vintage and new pieces together, there really are no rules so long as the setup makes you happy. However, playing with texture can have some interesting and lovely payoffs.
In this example here, I've paired my newly purchased vintage Mojave Western Stoneware Pitcher with a much more modern Orla Kiely Stoneware Pitcher. The black matte water pitcher and cup are Japanese glassware by Sugahara. If you like this look, there is still a Mojave pitcher minus the cap on sale on Etsy for a steal at only $5.50 USD. The Orla Kiely pitcher has since been discontinued but it's possible you might find one at Target or for sale in an online auction. Pick up the Sugahara glasses and other amazing modern texture pottery pieces like Heath Ceramics at Terrestra Shop Online.
